A VICTORIAN OFFICER'S CHAPKA OF THE (BRITISH) 16TH LANCERS

Skull and peak of patent leather and square top of very dark blue cloth, all richly embellished with gold braid, lace and cord etc., and with elaborate cockade bearing embroidered VR cypher, gilt metal fittings including extremely ornate rayed chapka-plate mounted with intricate white metal device, including the full Royal Arms, regimental title, and the numerous battle-honors including AFGHANISTAN, MAHARAJPORE, and SOBRAON, the headdress-lining bearing maker's name (chapka plate partially detached and some defects generally, mainly moth damage, plume and plume-socket missing)
