AN OFFICER'S SHABRACQUE AND HOLSTER-COVERS OF THE 1st LIFE GUARDS
Circa 1910
Dark blue cloth shabracque, edged with three rows of gold lace (with scarlet cloth showing between) and richly adorned on each hind-corner with a "King's Crown" above scrolls bearing the honors: DETTINGEN, PENINSULA, WATERLOO, EGYPT 1882 and TEL-EL-KEBIR above the LG cypher reversed and intertwined (and surrounded by the further scrolls: SOUTH AFRICA 1899-1900, RELIEF OF KIMBERLEY and PAARDEBERG) above the Garter star, all executed in elaborate gold embroidery etc. and with black leather straps etc; together with a companion pair of holster-covers, each of dark blue cloth with gold lace and scarlet cloth edging as on the shabracque, and embroidered with the crown and regimental cypher, the two covers linked by a section of bearskin; together with their black japanned metal horse-furniture case bearing a brass plate engraved EARL OF GIFFORD. 1st LIFE GUARDS
