TWO FRENCH BADGES OF OFFICE FOR GAMEKEEPERS OR WARDENS, AND OTHER ITEMS
2nd half 19th Century, and later
An oval silver shoulderbelt-plate, for a gamekeeper or watchman in the service of the Marquis de Mortemart, embossed with an oval armorial shield surmounted by a coronet with laurel-sprays and swags etc., the whole design within a matt border, with inscription GARDE DES PROPRIETES DE MR. LE MARQUIS DE MORTEMART; a brass badge of an official gamekeeper or warden of the Community of Maroilles, slightly bombé with sunken center, bearing in relief the Napoleonic Eagle on thunderbolt over a star, all within a circlet inscribed GARDE CHAMPETRE DE LA COMMUNE DE MAROILLES, and maker's stamp F. HUTIN, LILLE, circa 1860; a shoulderbelt-ornament in the style of a military picker-plate (with two small tubes), but bearing hunting motifs; and a rectangular brass waistbelt-plate embossed with hunting themes
