A HIGHLAND GENTLEMAN'S DIRK AND THREE SKEAN DHUS

A dirk (with its blade seized in the scabbard), the upper part of the grip in the form of a large silver thistle, the lower part of black bog-oak, ornate silver-mounted scabbard, the locket bearing crest of a Boar's head beneath motto scroll inscribed FIT VIA VI and fitted with two small suspension-rings, the other mounts containing by-knife and fork with silver thistle grips en suite with dirk; a skean dhu, with blade stamped MADE IN SCOTLAND, and ROWANS, GLASGOW, and marked STAINLESS, gilt-mounted nail-set black grip bearing St. Andrew in gilt brass, black scabbard with gilt-brass mounts; another skean dhu, with notched blade, substantial silver-mounted, nail-set black grip, black leather scabbard with silver mounts (hallmarked Edinburgh? 1871); and a miniature dummy skean dhu for a small boy, of solid wood (single piece) with correctly carved 'grip' and three silver mounts with modest line-engraving (4)
