A sword of Staff and Field Officers' 1850 Pattern, with etched decoration extending about half the length of the blade, gilt hilt with ornate pierced guard incorporating the letters U.S. and wire-bound fishskin-covered grip, gilt-mounted metal scabbard with ornate bands to the two suspension-rings (tip of blade slightly distorted)
