A Chinese Export lacquer rectangular shaped sewing box and cover
Circa 1840
decorated in gilt with figures in pavillions and in gardens within shaped cartouches among scattered folioage and a band of scrolling leaves, the hinged cover opening to reveal fitted compartments with various ivory utensils, with drawer to the front revealing a further compartment, raised on gilt mythical beast head supports, twin c-scroll gilt metal side handles -- 13½in. (34.2cm.) long.
