A PAIR OF GEORGE II STERLING SILVER CAST CANDLESTICKS
Maker's mark probably that of William Gould, London 1744
Each having a shaped square base richly cast with rocaille and shells on a fishscale ground rising to a knopped shaft and terminating in a spool-shaped socket with a shaped and engraved drip-pan; retaining traces of gilding throughout and engraved with initials J.E.E.S.
The small size of these candlesticks and the evidence that they were once gilt suggest that they may have formed part of a toilet set
