Lot Essay

Nerli was born in Siena and emigrated to Australia in 1885. He influenced the young members of the emerging Heidelberg School, in particular Charles Conder. He spent several years in New Zealand, Sydney and Melbourne before returning to Europe. It is known that Nerli was in London in 1904 and 1910 which would therefore provide the most likely dates for this work.
