Lot Essay

Bryant was a painter of Impressionist maritime scenes, who worked in Brittany, Paris and London, as well as in Australia. He was an official war artist during the First World War and was also a founder of the Manly Art Gallery.

In the catalogue for an exhibition held at The Athenaeum Gallery in Melbourne, titled Marine and War Paintings by Charles Bryant R.O.I, 20 - 30 June (year unknown), catalogue number 44 was titled Brixham Trawlers.
