Lot Essay

Boyd served in the army during the First World War and was gassed at Ypres. Upon his return to Australia he settled in Warrandyte. Although he naturally painted extensively in the Warrandyte area, Boyd also made extremely successful painting excursions to Portsea and Sydney. This is a late work by Boyd, completed in the year prior to his tragically early death in a car accident, at the age of thirty-three.
