Lot Essay

After the painting by Pietro da Cortona in the Louvre, Paris (inv. 105), that was almost certainly executed along with a pendant, Laban seeking his Idols (Bristol, City Art Gallery, no. K42), for the Barberini family in circa 1630-5.
