Lot Essay

This rare silvered bronze épreuve ancienne may well date from the late 1850s, shortly after the highly decorative and unique silvered, gilt and enamelled casts of Guerrier tartare, the Roger et Angélique garniture, and Gaston de Foix were commissioned by and completed for Émile Martin (see Poletti & Richarme, 2000, pp. 438-442, figs. 510-15).
