Not edited until 1874, Famille de daim brought together the four members of a deer family, each of which was modelled as an individual work during the 1830s and edited from 1857. See lot 56 for an example of the buck (Daim) and lots 62-64 for examples of the doe (Daine couchée). At the 1876 Atelier sale, modèles for these and several other deer and stag studies (see lot 71) were all included in lot 718, which was bought by Jacquemart and subsequently edited by Barbedienne.
