Lot Essay

A strongly symbolic work (like Lion au serpent), and perhaps inspired by the spread-winged imperial eagle supporting the bust of Napoleon carved on the pediment of the Pavillon Sully at the Louvre, Aigle emportant un serpent was offered in Barye's final catalogue and edited posthumously by Brame.
