Lot Essay

Also offered as individual models, Perruche posée sur un arbre, tête tournée vers la gauche, and its pendant, with head inclined to the right, were used by Barye between 1845 and 1857 principally as surmounts for his Candelabres à douze lumières (see Poletti & Richarme, 2000, no. D11, pp. 377-8). Large quantities of casts were also sold to Barbedienne for the same purpose. After the Atelier sale, both models were edited by Brame.

A cast of the pendant to this model, also from Eduardo Guinle's collection, was sold in these rooms, 25 May 1995, lot 160 ($4,600).
