Lot Essay

Although offered in all of his catalogues, Amazone, costume de 1830 is considered to be the most-rarely seen among Barye's figural groups, Poletti and Richarme estimating the total number of lifetime épreuves to be less than twenty. At the 1876 Atelier sale, the bronze modèle was not acquired by a fondeur, and therefore the model does not appear to have been edited posthumously.
