ANTOINE-LOUIS BARYE (FRENCH, 1795-1875)
Between 1825 and 1831, Barye modelled two sets of four bas-reliefs, each conceived as decorative embellishment for clocks or marble socles. Chien d'arrêt avec canard (lot 103) and Élan courant (lot 104) belong to the first set, while Panthère marchant (lots 102 and 106) and Genette emportant un oiseau (lot 105) are one half of the second. The fondeurs, Eck et Durand, in operation from 1838-1863, are known to have edited the first set, as evidenced in lot 103, but the presence of their stamp on lots 105 and 106, is proof they cast the second also.
