Traditionally regarded as having been a gift from the writer Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly to Harmand Royer. The bow was passed to Royer's friend the violinist Charles Drouet. It has remained in the Drouet family for three generations passing to George Louis Drouet and then on to his son Jean Etienne.
A much respected musician Jean Etienne Drouet, studied in Paris where he won the coveted 'Premier prix de Conservatoire de Paris'. He went on to become the solo violinist with the Orchestre du Capitole in Toulouse, and was a Professor of Music in that city's Conservatoire. Shortly after Drouet's death, the legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich gave a rectal in Toulouse, and preformed a Bach Sarabande which he dedicated to the memory of his friend and colleague.
