The rectangular purple leather case, fitted with nine engine-turned silver-gilt mounted cut-glass containers, a matching carriage clock, an ivory brush set and hand mirror, ivory-coloured leather accessories/boxes, an ivory shoe horn, etc., the silver-gilt items engraved, and the majority of ivory inlaid, with the name "DOSSIE"*, 51 x 35.5 x 20cm (20 x 14 x 8 inches), the lid initialled D.M..

Lot Essay

This dressing case belonged to Lady Dorothy "Dossie" Meynell nee Legge (1883-1974), dau. of the 4th Earl of Dartmouth, and was a wedding present to her in 1907.
