two lithographs, 1956, on wove paper, a proof of the purple stone printed in black before Mourlot's only state and Mourlot's only state, Mourlot calls for five proofs and the signed and numbered edition of 50, proof inscribed 'M 263' in pencil in the lower right margin, final state inscribed '263', 'M 263' and '6/6 FM' in pencil on the reverse, proof with a lower margin, final state the full sheet, both with very pale time staining, proof with soft handling creases and minor staining on the reverse, otherwise both in very good condition, both framed

Lot Essay

This composition recalls Courbet's portrait of Pierre-Joseph Prud'hon and his children now in the Musée du Petit Palais in Paris. Interest in Courbet, hailed as a "champion of revolutionary realism" reflects Picasso's own political involvement.
