A KASHAN LUSTRE ARCHITECTURAL POTTERY FRAGMENT
Central Iran, early 13th century
Forming the corner of a frieze, the upper surface with a naskh inscription in relief highlighted with cobalt against a lustre ground decorated with simple spiralling motifs, the sides with a bold naskh inscription painted in lustre against a white ground between bands of simple lustre and cobalt decoration

The inscriptions are from the Qur'an. On the top is sura lxxvi, parts of v.2; the sides have sura lxxvi, parts of vv.13 and 14.
