WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY (CIRCA 1100-771 BC)

The tri-lobed body resting on three sturdy feet decorated with a zig-zag band in relief framing each section, with a single large bovine mask-headed loop handle covering a three-glyph pictogram, (Clan's name) Fu yi, the rim with a pair of upright posts ending in compressed bud finials, the dark patina with some green encrustation

Lot Essay

Acquired by the present owner in September 1968.

Two closely related examples, the Yi jia in the St Louis Art Museum and the Mu Gui jia from the Shanghai Museum, both are published by R. W. Bagley, Shang Ritual Bronzes in the Arthur M.
