AN UNUSUAL FAMILLE VERTE BALUSTER VASE
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)

Finely painted in vibrant enamels to depict a continuous garden landscape scene of young women on horseback within fenced enclosures, participating in a riding game, amidst trees and ornamental rocks, observed in the distance by scholar-officials in a pavilion, the short cylindrical neck decorated with two landscape scenes, the first of a scholar riding on a donkey and the other of a scholar on a mountain path, both within a panel border reserved on a floral-ground (small nick to foot restored)

Lot Essay

A vase of the same form from the Palmer collection, similarly painted with figures but lacking the green-ground decoration around the neck, was included in the O.C.S. exhibition Enamelled Polychrome Porcelain of the Manchu Dynasty, 1951, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 43.
