Strongly potted, the cylindrical sides finely carved and incised with foliate scrolls bearing large peony blossoms with serrated leaves and clusters of ruyi-shaped foliage, the exterior and recessed base covered in a soft celadon-green glaze, the interior with a transparent glaze

Brushpots of this size and decorated in this technique have been published. A brushpot similarly carved with peonies is illustrated in Porcelains from the Tianjin Municipal Museum, Cultural Relics Publishing House, 1993, no. 126; while a larger example carved with lotus, was sold in our New York Rooms, 19 September 1996, lot 303; and another brushpot with chilong amidst lingzhi foliage from the British Rail Pension Fund, was sold in these Rooms, 27 April 1997, lot 725.
