Lot Essay

The origin of these tables is based on a pair of tables after a model by Karl Friedrich Schinkel recorded in the Kaiser Friedrich Palais, Berlin in 1888 and sold in a sale of Highly Important Continental Furniture in Sotheby's, London, 10 June 1998, lot 104. The attribution was made on stylistic grounds by comparing them to related pieces of furniture 'in the Grecian taste' designed by Schindler.
