Lot Essay

The design of this rug, both in the field and border, is very similar to that of an eighteenth century North West Persian rug now in the Folkwang Museum, Essen (Yetkin, Serare: Early Caucasian Carpets in Turkey, London, 1981, vol.II, pl.224). It is very possible that the design was taken from there.
