West Anatolia, 17th century
The brick-red field with angular leafy and flowering vine around two large indigo cusped star medallions divided by a minor lozenge medallion all containing angular vine and stylised palmettes, in a shaded blue border of polychrome stylised cloudbands alternating with rosettes between lemon-yellow and brick-red delicate angular vine stripes, even overall wear, much of outer stripe rewoven, minor small repairs in centre, selvages replaced

Similar "Star" Ushak carpets with cloudband borders are, amongst others, in the Victoria and Albert Museum (Hali, vol.6, no.4, pl.15, p.367) and in the Musée Jaquemart-André, Paris (Tapis present de l'orient à l'occident, exhibition catalogue, Paris, 1989, pp.94-95).
