Lot Essay

The shaded pale blue field colour on this example is much lighter than the dark blue or indigo field which, as Dr Friedrich Spuhler notes in his discussion of two examples in the Berlin Museum, almost invariably dominates Kuba carpets of this group (Spuhler, Friedrich: Oriental Carpets in the Museum of Islamic Art, Berlin, London, 1988, nos.110 and 111, pp.99-100, ill.pp.250-251).
