A MAGNIFICENT FANCY LIGHT PINK DIAMOND CHOKER
Large diamond briolettes of perfect colour and clarity are extremely scarce. Long thin shaped diamond roughs which are suitable to be cut into the elongated drop of a diamond briolette are rare, as diamonds crystallise in the cubic form in nature. In addition, to obtain a large internally flawless briolette, the rough has to be completely flawless and of an even larger size due to the important loss of material when cutting high-quality briolettes. Large white roughs usually contain flaws in their crystal structure rendering internally flawless briolettes of over 10 carats very rare; large coloured diamond briolettes are even scarcer as the coloured roughs tend to have more inclusions and are generally smaller in size. To enhance the natural beauty of the stones, perfect cutting techniques are neccessary to bring out the symmetry of the diamonds and full brightness of each perfectly placed facet. This is exemplified by the two beautifully-proportioned 18.64 carat D colour and 15.57 carat fancy light pink diamond briolettes offered by Christie's in the same sale.
