In the catalogue of the sale of the famous Collection of Pictures and Drawings of the late Alexander Young, Esq., 1910, the present lot was described as follows: 'An old red brick thatched cottage stands in the centre; a peasant woman is washing clothes in a pond in the foreground; windy sky'.
