Lot Essay

On March 31st 1969 John and Yoko flew to Vienna for the world TV première of their film Rape. They gave a brief press conference in the Hotel Sacher completely encased in a white bag from which they answered the journalists questions. The following day in London they appeared on the Thames TV programme Today where they initially appeared in a white bag up to their necks before, in a reference to their recent Amsterdam Bed-In, they got into a bed with interviewer Eamon Andrews. It would appear that the Dutch film crew accompanied the Lennons to both these events.
