Lot Essay

This distinctive pattern of tripod base, or 'claw', relates very closely to a pattern on tables made by Thomas Chippendale, for example that with a hexagonal top supplied to Sir Lawrence Dundas for 19 Arlington Street in 1764 (C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. II, fig. 470.)
