Lot Essay

This 'tea-poy' table, with caddies concealed beneath a hinged top, is elegantly serpentined and stretcher-trayed in the French fashion introduced by the Tottenham Court Road cabinet-maker, Pierre Langlois (d.1767).
The distinctive use of black-painting to the secondary woods of the carcase is also characteristic of his work.
