Lot Essay

Cf. W.H. Tapp, 'Jefferyes Hammet O'Neale - Artist', Part I, Apollo, June 1940, pp. 156-158, figs. III and IV, where he discusses a dish with a similar inscribed obelisk, apparently with O'Neale's signature. See also Simon Spero, The Bowles Collection of 18th Century English and French Porcelain (San Francisco, 1995), p. 27, pl. 20 for a dish of similar form to the present lot, also by O'Neale.
