A GROUP OF SOUTH ITALIAN BLACK GLAZED VESSELS
CIRCA 4TH CENTURY B.C.
Comprising a tall jug with gently concave neck, on ring base, 7 3/8 in. (18.8 cm.) high; an Apulian skyphos, twin loop handles, the base reserved with ring and dot in centre, metallic sheen, 3 7/8 in. (10 cm.) high; a bowl on raised foot, the interior with three small central stamped palmettes; another similar, with central rosette, 6¼ in. (15.8 cm.) and 5¼ in. (13.3 cm.) diam. respectively; a stemless cup, the shallow bowl with twin handles, on ring foot, 4 1/8 in. (10.4 cm.) diam.; an askos, the flat top with single side spout and arching handle, 2¾ in. (7 cm.) high; a cup raised on conical foot, with offset rim and reserved bands around the upper body, twin horizontal loop handles, repaired with some restoration, mid-6th Century B.C., 2¾ in. (7 cm.) high; and an East Greek stemless cup with black concentric circles on the interior and a band around the flat rim, 6th Century B.C., 4½ in. (11.4 cm.) diam. (8)
