AN EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN POTTERY SQUAT WINE AMPHORA
5TH-7TH CENTURY A.D.
With bulbous body and rounded base, horizontal ribbing around the broad shoulder and lower body, small ribbed handles on shoulder, short neck, 18 in. (45.7 cm.) high; another, with tapered body on ring base, the ribbed broad shoulder with short neck and grooved handles, circa 1st Century A.D., 14 1/8 in. (36 cm.) high; and a large pottery amphora with applied and incised details, the wide neck with two loop handles and a further broad composite handle in the form of a stylized figure with further decorative heads and applied scrolling ornament, rounded base, repaired with restoration, on metal stand, 28 in. (71 cm.) high (3)
