a khmer sandstone tympan
late 10th century
The petal-shaped tympan is carved in high relief with a squatting male deity on a square base, his right hand resting on the raised knee and holding a rosary, the left resting on his left upper leg, wearing vertical striated sampot secured by a belt and a large flange falling over it, his face with broad nose, pouting lips, beard, moustache, elongated earlobes with pendeloque ear rings and jatamakuta secured by a string and behind him a polylobed flaming halo supported by a pair of shaped pillars
