Lot Essay

Saint Druon, also known as Saint Drogo, was a Flemish noble orphaned at birth who, initially a penitential pilgrim, subsequently became a shepherd at Sebourg, France, where he lived as a hermit for forty years. A patron saint of shepherds, he died in 1186. An old label on the reverse of the picture reads: "Note laissée par u. Eosserand (?)
