Modeled as two biscuit figures of bacchantes kneeling back-to-back on a tassled cushion, their heads tipped back and supporting a reticulated basket, the rectangular base moulded front and back with stylized griffins centering an urn of fruit, the ends with garlands, on four paw feet, basket finial replaced
17in. (43.2cm.) high; 12 3/8in. (31.5cm.) wide at the mouth

Lot Essay

A claret ground example lacking the paw feet was sold in these Rooms 2 November 2000, lot 218. See Régine de Plinval de Guillebon, Porcelain of Paris, 1770-1850, New York, 1972, plate 81 for another example in the collection of the Palacio del Nacional de Queluz with slight variations in the decoration.
