The delicate and precise marquetry of the frieze and trellis parquetry which decorate this commode and use of amaranth designs on a citronnier ground are closely related to the distinctive marquetry and timbers employed by the celebrated ébéniste Roger Vandercruse dit Lacroix. A bonheur-du-jour with similar trailing foliage marquetry and identical use of woods stamped RVLC and which bears inventory marks of Pavlovsk Palace, St. Petersburg is illustrated in C. Roinet, Roger Vandercruse dit Lacroix, Paris, 200, fig. 16, p. 51. Another bonheur-du-jour attributed to Lacroix with trellis parquetry pendant husks, and star-centered guilloche with amaranth on a citronnier ground, was formerly in the collection of the Earl of Rosebery and is now in the Wrightsman Collection, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and illustrated in F.J.B Watson, The Wrightsman Collection, vol I, pl. 103, p. 180-181.
