The cypher is that of Don Gregorio Maria de Silva Mendoza y Sandoval (1649-1693), IX Duque del Infantando, IV Duque de Francavilla, V Duque de Pastrana, four times Grand d'Espagne.

Don Gregorio Maria de Silva Mendoza y Sandoval was a contemporary of Queen Christine of Sweden (1626-1689), who abdicated in 1654 in favor of her cousin Charles Gustave. She then undertook a voyage through Europe which led as far as Italy. A short time after her arrival in Rome, she seized Naples from Spain in an attempt to become the Neopolitan Queen and set France in opposition to Spain.

The castle of Ekoslund was the summer residence of King Gustave III.

This form of pedestal was intended to present large decorative porcelains or bronzes.
