Late 17th early 18th Century, decorated by Bartolome Sousa, the top and base associated, the decoration applied at a slightly later date
Decorated overall with mythological figures, Kings and Queens, hunters, dancers horseback riders, etc, the rectangular cabinet with two doors enclosing a tortoise-shell and ivory-lined interior with twenty-three drawers with arabesque decorations and engraved bone, on bun feet, the stand with canted rectangular top above two short and a long drawer, on baluster legs, worm damage particularly to the stand, the reverse decorated, the right side inscribed 'Bartolome Sousa me fecit', the decoration distressed, losses due to worm damage, the feet to the upper cabinet possibly later, the decoration of the cabinet applied onto a parquetry veneer

The decoration of this cabinet on stand appears to have been applied by different hands. The front, sides and interior decoration is all attributable to Bartolome Sousa, while the top and back, which is painted in a more naive manner is probably by a different artist. The base is almost certainly by a different artist again.
