DRESSER, Henry Eeles (1838-1915). A Monograph of the Meropidae, or Family of the Bee-Eaters, London: printed by Taylor and Francis for the author, 1884-1886. Large 4° (378 x 270mm). Wood-engraved title vignette and 34 hand-coloured lithographed plates by and after J. G. Keulemans. (A fewo light marginal ink stains on title and dedication.) Contemporary half red morocco, top edges gilt (edges rubbed and scuffed), original upper wrappers bound-in.
A FINE COPY. Issued in five parts and written after the completion of the same author's A History of the Birds of Europe (London, 1871-96 with the supplement), this monograph is "illustrated with fine hand-colored plates by J. G. Keulemans. Introductory notes on the anatomy and osteology are furnished by Frank E. Beddard" (Wood). Nissen IVB 269; Wood p.324; Zimmer p.178.
