"Greenwood's magnificent map of London, superbly engraved by Josiah and James Neele, was the first to be published on a large scale (7 inches to the mile) for many years, and the first to a standard of accuracy comparable with modern large-scale maps of the capital. The colour was still a wash applied by hand and was used to emphasise the chain lines marking the boundaries of parishes and liberties, as well as the boundaries of the City and Westminster. Greenwood abandoned contour lines within the built-up area, so that he marked Primrose Hill, still then in a semi-rural district, but ignored the steep rise from the Fleet valley to St. Paul's" (Glanville).
