comprising several brightly-coloured vignettes of camp life, including a large bothy housing convivial volunteers and bottle-laden tables, a smaller refreshment tent, men hanging out washing, men picking fruit and cooking, pond with trees, gun and limber, six various fabric tents with lead flags, and various mounted and foot figures, in original lined wooden box, with gold-printed title of set on lid and Austrian awards --29.5cm. wide, 1880s (overall G-VG, sd., flaking and bending, box G)

Lot Essay

The Wimbledon Volunteer Review was an annual rifle display organised by the National Rifle Association that took place for many years on Wimbledon Common on St George's Day. On safety grounds, the event moved to Bisley near Woking in 1889, where it still thrives today.
