A large Persian sandalwood box and cover
Qajar, 19th century
of rectangular shape, carved to the cover in high relief with a lion and a dragon in battle within a calligraphic and scrollwork border, within a further floral border, the sides with cartouches carved with animals amongst flowers, within openwork panels with gilt and various coloured backing -- 17½in. (44.5cm.) wide, (minor wear).
