A Samarkand pottery bowl
Central Asia, 10th/11th century
with rounded sides and slightly inverted rim, the cream interior painted in bold brown kufic with a single word amongst floral motifs, the exterior with a bamd of comma motifs to the rim -- 7 1/8in. (18cms) diam, (restored).
