Lot Essay

Although the programme indicates a date of no later than 1890 (when Cavalleria was first performed), the case and movement appear to date from the first half of the 19th century. The barrel must in that case have been repinned, probably for a British client in view of the Gondoliers extract. The organ can also be started manually.
