A Louis XV/XVI Transitional tulipwood, amaranth and floral marquetry ormolu-mounted breakfront commode
Late 18th Century, embellished in the 19th Century with the spurious stamp in script 'Riesener.H.1769' and the majority of the mounts
The grey-veined marble top above a frieze applied with scrolling foliate mounts and fitted with three drawers, with two long drawers below inlaid sans traverse, the central panel depicting a musical trophy flanked to either side by panels of flower-filled urns within ribbon-wrapped borders, with conforming sides, flanked by canted angles headed with floral mounts and terminating in cabriole legs with paw sabots, branded 'St C' (possibly authentic), the underside of the marble inscribed in pencil 'Bateson/Miles/Manning/Westbrook', restorations
