The modelled figures emblematic of Love, on a bowed base inset with scrolled mounts, raised on bun feet, the white enamel Arabic dial with inner concentric calendar rings, signed 'Léchopie AParis' regulator at 60, with pierced ormolu entrelac hands, calendar hand lacking, the twin barrel movement with later suspension to anchor escapement, countwheel strike on a bell to backplate also signed 'Léchopie AParis'

Lot Essay

Adam Léchopie, received maître in 1758 and juré from 1772 to 1789.

Léchopie of the rue Neuve-des-Petits-Champs employed cases by Goyer, Saint-Germain, Thomire, Vion, Poisson and the Osmonds. He counted the marquis de Brunoy and Beaujon amongst his clients.

A courting couple attend the veil-draped columnar 'altar' clock, whose Grecian-stepped pedestal is wreathed by Venus's pearl-strings and enriched with a bas-relief comprised of an antique 'rainceaux' of flowering and fruiting Roman foliage.
